Sustainable business and CSR: electronic recycling and disposal benefits

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, on the increase by at least 5% each year. WEEE is made of many product categories including popular items such as computers, mobile phones, laptops and other office and household items with a plug.

In 2007, the WEEE Directive was introduced by UK law to try and encourage reuse, recycling and recovery of electronic items. As users of electronics, we all have a duty to safely dispose of electronic items. If disposed of incorrectly, electronics can end up at UK landfill sites where the toxic chemicals and metals contained within the devices can leak and pollute the surrounding environments.

At ShP Limited, our aim is to divert as much of this potential waste away from landfill through our many electronic recycling services.

To find out more and how ShP Limited can help you comply with your obligations in a safe and convenient way, view our WEEE Directive and obligations guide.

Electronic sustainability

We understand that WEEE disposal cannot always be straightforward.

At ShP, we aim to make waste electrical recycling and IT disposal as straightforward as possible. We provide advice to help you comply with the WEEE Directive and safely manage your electronic waste lifecycle through dedicated account managers.

Every electronic product that we recover enters a stringent processing policy in line with ISO9001 (Quality), ISO14001 (Environment) and ISO27001 (Security) to ensure that we reuse and recycle every component and electronic device.

Approximately 92% of all products we recover can be reconditioned and reintroduced back into the market. The remaining electronics are sustainably broken down for parts that are reused to make non-working items working again. Remaining materials such as plastics, metals and other elements are melted down and sold for remanufacturing.

Charity and electronic recycling

Since our business started in 2001, we have always had a commitment to charity, helping fundraise through recycling led initiatives.

To date, we have successfully generated over £5million for good causes by reclaiming and recycling computers, mobile phone recycling, laptops and IT disposal.

Working with over 200 registered UK charities, we have help set-up and successfully manage Charity recycling services. Through provision of online services and affiliation with corporate clients, we now operate the UK’s most successful charity recycling service under our dedicated charity business arm, ShP for Charity.
